Ever since RIM officially unvieled the PlayBook back in September, they've been totally quiet when it comes to being specific about the tablet's launch information outside of "early 2011." It seems that Gregory Wade, RIM's VP for Asia Pacific, couldn't keep his mouth shut any longer, though. According to Wade, the PlayBook will make its debut in Q1 2011 with a $500 price tag in the U.S., with a worldwide launch following in Q2. Interestingly, Wade also said that the PlayBook will support 4G but didn't specify whether it would be LTE or WiMAX.
RIM has said in the past that they planned on offering 3G and 4G PlayBooks in the future, so it's not clear if that's what Wade is referring to, or if the device that we see in Q1 will be 4G-capable. The rest of the PlayBook news, while nice, isn't terribly surprising. We got a narrowed launch window, although it's still not as specific as we'd like. The $500 price isn't much of a shocker, either, considering that it's in direct line with the iPad, which many businesses have been adopting for their employees as of late. Speaking of businesses, once the PlayBook is launched, which tablet do you think corporations will adopt? Many already issue BlackBerry smartphones, so will they make the PlayBook jump?
