Review: Motorola Droid Pro

What's Good: Great BlackBerry-like keyboard; lightweight with great build quality; compact design but can still pack a punch; corporate email support; decent camera; convenience key; loud speaker.

What's Bad: Tiny display with low resolution; average to poor battery life; software glitch makes for frequent misspelling of words; MOTOBLUR makes the display feel even more cramped; glossy finish scratches easy.

The Verdict: This device isn't the biggest, fastest, or the all-around best on paper, but it undoubtedly carries the name “Pro” well. For $179.99 with a two-year agreement and mail-in rebate, the Droid Pro on Verizon is a great choice for heavy texters and businessmen who need to kick out emails on the go.

Conclusion: While the Droid Pro doesn't have a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, 8-megapixel camera, and a 4.3-inch display, it is a very nice device that will work perfect for many users seeking a new-age smartphone with a reliable physical keyboard. I would recommend the Pro to anyone, even those who currently have larger-screen devices. The keyboard definitely makes up for the small display size. For $179.99 with a two-year agreement, the Droid Pro is a very sleek and solid device that can hold its on and lives up to its name.

Upcoming Tech: Blackberry PlayBook

Ever since RIM officially unvieled the PlayBook back in September, they've been totally quiet when it comes to being specific about the tablet's launch information outside of "early 2011."  It seems that Gregory Wade, RIM's VP for Asia Pacific, couldn't keep his mouth shut any longer, though.  According to Wade, the PlayBook will make its debut in Q1 2011 with a $500 price tag in the U.S., with a worldwide launch following in Q2.  Interestingly, Wade also said that the PlayBook will support 4G but didn't specify whether it would be LTE or WiMAX.

RIM has said in the past that they planned on offering 3G and 4G PlayBooks in the future, so it's not clear if that's what Wade is referring to, or if the device that we see in Q1 will be 4G-capable.  The rest of the PlayBook news, while nice, isn't terribly surprising.  We got a narrowed launch window, although it's still not as specific as we'd like.  The $500 price isn't much of a shocker, either, considering that it's in direct line with the iPad, which many businesses have been adopting for their employees as of late.  Speaking of businesses, once the PlayBook is launched, which tablet do you think corporations will adopt?  Many already issue BlackBerry smartphones, so will they make the PlayBook jump?

Review: Samsung Galaxy Tab

Pros:
Lightweight, 7-inch screen beautiful screen, 3-megapixel camera, fast processor, responsive touch   screen, Small and portable, long battery life.

Cons:
Eats up data quickly, Flash enabled, Proprietary Samsung port for charging, Slow browsing speed, heavy price tag at $599 requires data plan activation.

Overall, the Samsung Galaxy Tab is probably the best Android tab device out there now and is definitely a tough competitor that is going against the Apple iPad.

Review: Samsung Epic 4G

Pros
  • 4-inch Super AMOLED display is beautiful, and offers a balance between "way tiny" and "super huge"
  • Physical QWERTY keyboard is roomy, easy to use, and could appeal to the BlackBerry crowd
  • Front-facing camera for video calling
  • 4G (WiMAX) connectivity
Cons
  • For a flagship device, Epic's 5-megapixel camera pales in comparison to the EVO 4G, DROID Incredible, and DROID X
  • Samsung's TouchWiz user interface, with its colorful icons and large print, isn't for everyone
  • Epic 4G also requires Sprint's $10 "premium data" charge
  • Galaxy S line (including Epic 4G) is still waiting for Android 2.2
Summary
As the second 4G (WiMAX) device available, the Epic 4G is part of Samsung's Galaxy S line.  With a 1 GHz processor, 4.0-inch display, and Android 2.1, it's an awesome addition to Sprint's smartphone lineup.  That said, it falls a bit short in the battery life department, and lacks the 8-megapixel shooter and the Android 2.2 update found on the HTC EVO 4G

Review: Apple iPad

The Apple iPad is a new revolutionary product that is the first of the " Tablet " market. It features a 9.7-inch, high resolution screen that has a IPS capacitive display with multi-touch. The screen resolution is 1024 x 768 pixels and is very crisp and clear. On the right hand side of the device, it has a volume rocker and screen rotation lock. On the top, it shows a sleep/shut off button, and has a microphone and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. On the bottom it shows the 30 pin connector and speakers and nothing on the left side. Finally you have your screen and home button on the front and an aluminum backing on the back with the usual Apple logo.

The iPad is 1.5 pounds and is only 0.5 inches thin which makes up why its so portable. The iPad feels great in the hands and is very easy to use with its larger and very responsive screen. It runs Apples OS and still has a wide variety of apps to choose from. Anywhere from games to tools to almost pretty much anything you want or need. The gaming on the iPad is amazing and watching movies on its large and clear screen makes it just that much better. The pricing on the iPad varies on if you want 3g on it or just wifi. Here are the prices:

Apple iPad Wifi: 16gb - $499  32gb - $599  64gb - $699

Apple iPad Wifi with 3g: 16gb - $629  32gb - $729  64gb -$829   $30/month unlimited data
